Samra-Mansang (2023)

Samra (森羅) is the shape of a forest that is spread out like a forest. So the Samra Mansang refers to all kinds of things that are spread out in our life.

First, In musical part, I motivated to Godfrey Reggio's "Koyaanisqatsy," produced in 1982, to create a new sound that was woven into a reinterpretation. The film's theme, which depicts human greed to build and build endless towers to reach heaven's authority, and the motif of mise-en-scène.

"Koyaanisqatsy" comes from the Hoppier language of the Hopi people, a native American living in Arizona. It means "Life out of balance" is directly related to the theme of the movie. It is not a documentary with any narrative and not illuminates interesting objects, persistently explores the causal relationship of social phenomena, strongly condemns a problem, or silently contemplates the passage of time.

As mentioned earlier, It is looking at humans who stand in the position of God and eventually die after failing to exploitate nature due to the development of civilization. For this reason, "Koyaanisqatsi" is more of a work that experiences images of civilization and nature that are lost in balance rather than a film that reads the flow. I tried to described to audio visualizing a cascading, endless, boring, and persistent phase with today's civilization in 2023.

In the musical part, ‘Samra-Mansang’ is based on the rhythm of Korean unique rhythm 'Chilchae'.

‘Chilchae’ rhythm is divided into Gilgunakchilchae or Madangchilchae. It is used for marching in Nongak and which is a unique rhythm of Gyeonggi-do Nongak and is used in Gyeonggi-do, Gangwon-do Yeongseo, and northern Chungcheong-do in South Korea.

The continuity of Chilchae, a tricky beat that mixes three-minute beats and two-minute beats, and the charm of Korea's unique rhythm, which seems to have a certain pattern, are mixed with electronic beats.
